Christian Iseli

Born in 1957, Iseli completed his studies at the University of Bern in history, literature and language with a Master's degree. In the field of filmmaking and journalism he was largely trained "on the job". Since 1987 Iseli has been working as an independent filmmaker. He is also a part-time professor of film at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Zürich.

As an author and director Iseli has focussed mainly on documentary films.
(Example: 1995 Der Stand der Bauern (The State of the Farmers), documentary 16/35mm 90min, shown in Swiss cinemas and on TV, Quality Prize of the Federal Office of Culture, Film Prize of the Canton of Bern, 2nd. Prize of the Intenational Documentary Festival Pärnu (Estonia). Festivals: IDFA Amsterdam (competition), Pärnu (competition), Nyon, Paris, Locarno, Solothurn. Shown in the series «New Documentaries» of the Museum of Modern Art, New York).

In the technical field Iseli has worked as a camera-assistant, director of photography and as a film editor.

Between 1996 und 1998 Christian Iseli was the editor of «DOX, Documentary Film Magazine».

Since 1998 Christian Iseli has been a member of the film commission of the city of Berne.

Since 2001 Christian Iseli has been responsible for professional training in the field of documentary film within the FOCAL Foundation
